“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band
As part of its 2017 national tour, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band will perform at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 9 (Columbus Day) at The Stanley Theatre, 261 Genesee St., Utica. The concert is free and open to the public.
In the style of the band’s 17th Director John Philip Sousa, who initiated the concert tour tradition in 1891, Marine Band Director Col. Jason Fettig has chosen a diverse mix of programs- from traditional band repertoire and Sousa marches to instrumental solos and a salute to the Armed Forces.
“These events are always well attended and we look forward to a great night of music that the entire community can come out and enjoy!” said Jerry Kraus, Executive Director of The Stanley.
The event is being sponsored by the Citizen’s Committee for the Performance of the U.S. Marine Band. The committee is seeking monetary donations from businesses, organizations and individuals to cover the local share of the expenses. Scott Michael Murray of Utica is chairman of the citizen group.
“We are pleased and honored to have Utica chosen for the National Tour of this prestigious military band,” Murray said. “We are excited to be able to offer area residents this first-class entertainment and without cost to those who attend,” he added.
Tickets to the October 9th performance of the U.S. Marine Band are free and are available at The Stanley Box Office or by calling 315.724.4000. Tickets are limited to four per request and are available on a first-come, first served basis. Ticket holders must be seated by 6:30 p.m.; non-ticket holders will be admitted at that time.
Information can be obtained by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Those wishing to donate to help defer the local costs should make checks payable to “The Stanley” and mail to Marine Band Concert, PO Box 194, Washington Mills, NY 13479.
By the end of the National Tour, the Marine Band will have traveled 2,551 miles throughout the northeast, performing 28 cities in 10 states with stops in Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey and Delaware.
