It's National Volunteer Week! Here at The Stanley we have an army of volunteers who really keep this place going! We would never be able to keep things running as smoothely as they do without them, so in their honor we will be posting some highlights our volunteers have given us including their name, how long they have been with us, and what inspired them to get involved! Thank you to everyone who help us keep this theater as great as it can be! See you at The Stanley!

Name: Dyana Cornacchia

Number of years as a volunteer: 20+

What inspired you to become a Stanley volunteer?

I have always loved musicals. Having 4 children to bring up I just didn’t have the money to buy tickets to go. What better way to see all the wonderful musicals and all the Stanley has to offer but to be a volunteer and help the Stanley at the same time?

What do you like best about volunteering at the Stanley?

I am able to see some absolutely wonderful performances by such talented people, while helping our patrons in any way for them to enjoy our performances.

Tell us a memorable volunteer story.

I do not really have a memorable one because there have been many of them but not one that really sticks out from the rest. I only know that I love to see the faces on our patrons when they are going home, especially the children seeing our performances.

What inspired you to become a Stanley volunteer?

It has always been a dream of mine! My son put me to a challenge to start fulfilling my dreams! So I am!

What do you like best about volunteering at the Stanley?

The atmosphere – it’s absolutely beautiful at the Stanley. The other volunteers are so helpful – great people to work with.

Tell us a memorable volunteer story.

I guess for me it would be the Sesame Street show. Just watching the excitement of the young and old and hearing the laughter. Such joy – just makes me smile. I also got to stay and see the show – I had a ball!

Name: Regina Dodson

Number of years as a volunteer: 15

What inspired you to become a Stanley volunteer?

I have always enjoyed the theater – the excitement, the shows and other performances. I remember going to the Stanley years ago to see movies and was amazed with the beauty of the theater. I fell in love with the Stanley Theatre way back then and when I had the opportunity to volunteer there, I jumped at the chance.

What do you like best about volunteering at the Stanley?

I enjoy meeting the people who come to the shows. I enjoy their humor and friendliness. Being able to see the plays and entertainers has been very enjoyable.

Tell us a memorable volunteer story.

After I finished ushering for the Celtic Woman, I was able to watch the performance. The show was fantastic with the singing, the instrumental part, the dresses they wore and the lighting effects. Seeing the Celtic Women in person was an awesome experience.

Name: Judy Rosinki

Number of years as a volunteer: 38

What inspired you to become a Stanley volunteer?

The Utica Symphony wanted assistance seating patrons. Being that I sometimes went to the theater with my parents, I thought it would be fun! I would get to help, be at the theater and see shows!

What do you like best about volunteering at the Stanley?

Seeing all the people as well as the shows. In addition, I take pride in this area and in the Stanley Theatre – I love being a volunteer.

Tell us a memorable volunteer story.

One of the nicest memories – that is repeated over and over – is when new patrons, especially young ones, walk into the theater for the first time . . . like deer in the headlights . . . in awe of the beauty and grandeur.
